Rachel Zettler Death– Tragic fire accident claim life of 58yrs Woman in North Pine Street
ZEIGLER, IL – The Zeigler community is mourning after a devastating house fire claimed the life of 58-year-old Rachel Zettler on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
At approximately 5:15 AM, first responders were dispatched to a structure fire on North Pine Street. Zeigler firefighters, upon arrival, immediately began firefighting operations and searched the residence. Tragically, human remains were discovered inside the home and later identified as Mrs. Zettler.

The severity of the blaze, which involved an explosion, prompted the activation of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS), bringing critical support from surrounding fire departments.
The cause of the fire remains under active investigation by the Zeigler Police Department, the Zeigler Fire Department, and the Office of the State Fire Marshal. No details regarding the origin have been released.
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Mrs. Zettler during this incredibly difficult time,” said Zeigler Police Chief Ben Burkhamer. “We ask the community to keep her loved ones in their prayers.”
Authorities extended gratitude to all mutual aid partners, emergency services, the Franklin County Coroner, and local utilities whose swift actions ensured responder safety.
